The Magic of pretty woman

1990 pretty woman released in america . if you think this movie is a chick flick . I disagree with your view completely , because pretty woman is a movie for everyone and for everybody

The story line is very simple- A lonely millionaire falls in love with a prostitute.

A story line, where in india , the directors would definitely think twice directing a movie of this genre  , but of course, its hollywood . Hence pretty woman born. :-))

The hero of this movie is a lonely rich guy who do not want to spend his week's business stay in beverly hills alone and hence book a prostitute julia roberts to accompany him in needs.

His calculation is = Loneliness + a woman's company

On the other hand, julia roberts, the heroine of this movie, is in desperate need for money, her life had been full of struggles so far along with bad decisions , she accepts the one week's beck and call contract and get paid 3000 dollars.

Each and every scene is framed superbly and calculatedly. Heard most of the top actresses of 90's, including meg ryan of  "when harry met sally"  fame was approached by garry marshall -the director, listening to the story line, they rejected the offer, outright!.

Of course, It was julia roberts lucky time!

How, in a week's time, spending a quality time together, a rich business guy and prostitute fall head over heels in love with each other is the story, added with emotional complications.
May sound too romantic like the mills and boon novels, but garry marshall had kept a dialogue , to answer our questions.

1. On the last day ,"where julia's friend kit come to meet her in the star hotel, julia says , i kissed him on the mouth, her friend get shocked, because, they have rule to not to kiss a guy on the mouth" because, the relationship gets too emotional!

1. When kit hears julia broke the rule , she gets shocked, yet, understood her friend's feelings, that she  is truly in love with this guy she had been with. Being a good friend, she says, you could say with him and he could be your saviour,  -----, julia interupts her friend and ask this question! When it had happened kit? when did a good guy fall in love with people like us?

True enough! We doubt the same ! Well, a cute climax scene will answer you!

Exciting scenes you will love-----

• When richard get confused with the route, where he asks for guidance , she replies- 5 bucks :-))

• End of the car journey, julia very much hope to stay the night with the richard, but he says good bye as soon as he drops her outside the hotel

• When richard ask why dont you call the cab " and she replies " no i prefer the bus" - A positive attitude from a girl of her backround was  surprising to me when i first watched the movie

• You dont drink, you dont eat, you hardly sleep, come on edward what you do-  now that i know , you are not a lawyer, for which, he replies, i buy companies and sell it into pieces.Sounds ruthless!

• A classic scene where he gives her champagne and turns to offer her strawberries, because it adds the flavour to the champagne, by the time, he gets it, she finishes off the entire drink- i was laughing out loud in this scene

• The shopping scene- where julia asks the waitress price of the dress , and the shopkeeper replies if wouldn't fit you and says please leave-with clearly the intention of insulting her, due to her cheap attire

• Later julia  goes back to the same shop and introduce herself with her new classy outlook - gives back - Excellent dialogue

• Hector elizando's excellent hotel manager role- a very important role - a character who clearly empathize everyone's needs and feelings.

• How to eat in a salad fork and dinner fork- the typical confusion everyone gets, and hector teaches her to be perfect, table manners :-)

• The scene, after making love, julia explains, how she got into this profession

• Richard gere's characterization- a rich guy without a condescending attitude with a simple nature, who longs for love and friendship.

• Richard gere's lawyer is the villain in this movie, but he has a small role yet a strong one

• The role julia's friend kit plays- Her mannerisms in this movie, it was just  awesome, especially the body language, in the hotel reception- A couple, who looks at her with odd expression, she says, " 50 buks grandpa for one night, the wife can watch" - hahaha, it was a cultural shock scene for me, cos i watched this movie, when i was just 19 :-)

• The best scene in this movie is the shopping scene- where pretty woman truly arises. Where she tries on every dress possible, and the confidence she has with the better outfits and better looks

• The dinner time with the business rivals- especially julia's dialogue " slipping little suckers"- hahhaa fabulous

• Richard threw his long time lawyer friend just because he mis behaves with is beck and call- a dignified scene with the neat amount of emotion showed on both the actors parts.

• The cab driver- who speaks less, but understands a lot

• A prostitute with integrity- where she and richard fight for letting her out in front of his lawyer, she rejects to take the money he offers-and leaves..

• And in front of the elevator- after the fight she asks- why did you let him know i m a hooker- for that he replies " you were talking with david morse, i didnt like it" she says- we were just talking, and he says again " i didnt like it" -- lovely

• Dialogues such as -- I m sorry i met you, i m sorry i got into your stupid car- he says- as if you had so many more appealing options,  you have lots of special gifts, please stay tonight, not because i m paying you, because you want to", princess trapped in a tower by a wicket queen-i have never treated you like a prostitute- you just did,so what happens after he rescues her, she rescues him right back. Awesome , sharp words of feelings.

• At last ,When he changes his business plan, listening to her words - 
• The older business rival- Mr morse, excellent acting too- we will fall in love with him, though he troubles our sweet hero

A beautiful, unconventional, lovely movie- which says, treat every woman right! Every one has feelings- every one including a millionaire and also a prostitute.

I have seen so many hollywood and british flicks, recently korean too-- but this movie always play a special and sweet role in my heart, for its quality and substance with excellent acting, emotions and hard hitting dialouges for a romantic flick

It makes me want to have a small chit chat with the director of this movie garry marshall if i ever get a chance.
I firmly believe richard gere and julia roberts - one of the best on screen couple hollywood ever had  and of course there is one more movie the same pair acted, directed by the same director - called

Run away bride- watch it, if you could...

Pretty woman teaches us love, not the physical love- just the generalized understanding , empathizing love-which we all seek from everybody we see in this world.

So pretty woman- always pretty :-)
